Hydraulic Test Facility

Description

The Hydraulic Test Facility was constructed in approximately 1961 and used for the preliminary checkout of piping systems, pumps and heat exchangers.  Water was used because it has similar flow properties as liquid sodium but without the high temperatures required to liquefy sodium.

The HTF circulated demineralized water for hydraulic testing of components at flow-rates from 0 to 4,500 gpm. The water could be heated and regulated to permit thermal transient testing. The facility was equipped with digital data acquisition system for generating on and off-line processing, real-time CRT displays and recall plotting.

Cleanup

This facility did not use sodium.  It was demolished in 2003 and the construction debris shipped off-site for disposal.
