Liquid Metal Development Lab-1

Description

The Liquid Metal Development Laboratory 1 (LMDL 1) was composed of six individual interconnected and relatively small skid-mounted test rigs.  The uses of the test rigs ranged from calibration of test and measurement equipment to the evaluation of the pressure sensors.  One rig was used to obtain data about the friction and wear characteristics of devices such as pump seals.

Development work included the testing of electro magnetic pumps, valves, cold traps, and subscale pumps. LMDL 1 was housed in building 4023.

Cleanup

Sodium loop tests were completed in 1982. The loop was dismantled and removed in 1996. Building 4023 was demolished in 2003.
